Ophthalmology

The ophthalmology clinic at the Eye Institute provides a wide range of services including general ophthalmology, cataract evaluations, corneal evaluations and vision correction/refractive surgery evaluations.

The Midwestern University Eye Institute houses a variety of technology and equipment to serve our patients, from simple cases to complex.

How We Can Help

General ophthalmology: Dr. Fintelmann offers a wide range of surgical and medical therapy for a variety of eye issues. These range from corneal transplants for conditions such as keratoconus or Fuchs, treatment for ocular surface problems such as pterygium and dry eye and a variety of treatments for glaucoma such as minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and laser procedures.

Cataract evaluations: The lens inside your eye that helps focus light on the retina can become cloudy over time and is then referred to as a cataract. If this is starting to affect your vision Dr. Fintelmann offers cataract surgery. You have the option of choosing from a variety of lenses depending on your visual goals after surgery.

Vision correction/Refractive surgery evaluations: If you are interested in decreasing your dependence on glasses Dr. Fintelmann offers a variety of procedures to help you with your goal. Refractive cataract surgery, refractive lensectomy, laser vision correction such as LASIK and PRK as well as implantable collamer lenses (ICL) are all available procedures offered to correct your vision.

What to Expect

When referred for ophthalmology services, you should anticipate to be seen by a team of Midwestern University faculty and students. Should you require an evaluation with an ophthalmologist or need eye surgery, we are able to help. During the examination, you may undergo additional testing to aid in assessment. In most instances, the evaluation will be billed to your medical insurance rather than to vision insurance.
