What to expect when getting dentures
Most dentures are completed in four to five appointments, each lasting about an hour. At the Midwestern University Dental Institute in Downers Grove, IL, a student dentist works with a faculty member at every step to make sure your dentures fit well, look natural, and are comfortable to wear.
Your denture appointments
- Exam and impressions: We evaluate your mouth and take impressions.
- Measurements and bite registration: We record how your jaws fit together.

Why do some dentures take longer?
Depending on the structure of the face, jaw and supporting tissue, some dentures may require more time and attention. Resorbed dental arches mean that the denture is more likely to require multiple appointments in order to obtain a satisfactory outcome.
Follow-up care
Once your denture is complete and comfortable, we schedule follow-up visits to check how it’s working over time. These visits help keep your dentures fitting well and support your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
