Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (also called TMJ / TMJ Syndrome) is the name given to a group of problems that affect the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement. Individuals with TMJ often complain about pain when eating, sleeping or at rest, pain in or around the ear, locking of the jaw making it hard to open or close the mouth, general headaches or facial pain. Other problems treated include chronic headaches and facial pain.
