Biography

Dr. Merritt received his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education and Counseling from University of New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico University. After teaching in the public schools, he attended University of Missouri School of Dentistry and graduated from that school in 1978. He returned to his hometown of Clovis, New Mexico, and opened his private dental practice with his wife as his dental hygienist. They practiced together for 37 years until he joined Midwestern University Dental Institute in 2015. 

Dr. Merritt has been involved at all levels with the New Mexico and American Dental Associations. He has just completed 12 years as a member of the ADA House of Delegates, chaired the New Mexico Health and Well Being Committee for 5 years and served on the Council on Ethic, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs for three years at the ADA. He is also a member of the Arizona Dental Association, the American College of Dentists, the American College of Dentist International, the American Institute of Oral Biology and the Pierre Fauchard Society. He served for 12 years on the New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care and chaired that organization for 3 years. He was a WREB examiner and active in the American Association of Dental Examiners.
