Biography
Dr. Barber graduated from the University of California at Davis, CA with a B.A. in 1978. He attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN and graduated with a D.D.S. degree in 1983. From 1985-1989 he completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Highland General Hospital/Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, CA. After completing his residency, he spent three years on faculty at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry and as an attending faculty in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
From 1992-1997 he was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, as well as The Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. From there he went to Temple University’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program and served as Vice-Chairman. In 2009 he moved to Arizona and was in private practice until 2016 when he became a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor and in July 2018 became full-time faculty at Midwestern University. Dr. Barber has written and been editor of multiple Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery text books and has published over 50 articles.
He is past president of the American Board of Oral Implantology and Implant Dentistry and is board certified by the American Board of Oral Implantology and National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is also a Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
